WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – In 1993, the City of West Hollywood became the nation’s first declared pro-choice city. In reaction to today’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, elected and appointed officials and community members, and organizations will be holding a candlelight vigil and march at West Hollywood Park at 7 p.m. People will gather at the park and then march.
A majority of the court voted to strike down the landmark abortion rights decisions. The opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.
