Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 3/26/23 – Marginalized communities’ rights continue to lay in the hands of conservatives who continuously authorize antiquated ideologies to take precedence over the basic human rights such as using identity corresponding toilets. The bill would also allow grade schoolteachers to misgender their students as well as many other dehumanizing allowances like refusing gender affirming surgery.
However, disheartening, Beshear and team vow to fight against this bill at every turn, even vowing to head to the courts if the bill becomes law. The attack on transgender Americans has and continues to cause irreparable damage to the community far beyond politics. Suicide among trans people continues to be the leading cause of death within the community; micro and macro-aggression such as the details of the transgender care ban correlates directly to the amount of death that befalls this community.
Contrary to the feelings of conservatives parading as empirical data, trans individuals are not more likely to ‘regret’ gender affirming surgery once completed. Moreover, the supposed regret should not enable legislators to deny any American care. Andy Besheare understands this and has since made it his mission to see that the transgender care ban is lifted.
