Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 03/10-19/2023 – Some of the many hotly anticipated feature premieres unveiling this year in Austin are You Can Call Me Bill the documentary on actor William Shatner. Directed by Alexandro Phillipe, the doc covers the actor’s career highlights from projects including Star Trek, T.J. Hooker, and Boston Legal. Shatner also ruminates on mortality, as the 91-year-old talks about his grandchildren and what he’s learned about life.
This year’s SXSW “Secret Screening” is John Wick 4, the fourth installment in the Keanu Reeves hit franchise. The film will receive its first American screening at SXSW, after its world premiere in London just days prior to the opening of SXSW.
Other buzzy premieres in this year’s film selection are Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons, Evil Dead Arise, Eva Longria’s Flamin’ Hot and the Tilda Swinton indie Problemista.
Oscar-shortlisted director Ondi Timoner, will premiere her latest film, The New Americans: Gaming a Revolution which examines the impact of the internet and social media on not only our economy and markets but our democratic form of government. The doc mentions the 2021 GameStop issue, when day traders sent the stock market stumbling by short-selling shares in the video game retailer.
Topics such as brand culture, the future of clean energy, genetics in health care systems, plus seminars with festival programmers from around the world including Melbourne, Catalonia, and others, will mentor attendees in producing, festival programming and other filmmaker tips. SXSW festival lineup includes film and TV premieres, music, comedy, technology, health, environmental programming and other tracks from diverse audiences around the world.
