Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 11/19/24 – On November 13th, Sting delivered a performance at The Wiltern that showcased why he remains one of music’s most enduring artists. From the moment he stepped on stage, it was clear this wasn’t just another concert—it was a masterclass in timeless artistry.
The setlist was a brilliant mix of his greatest hits, and each song felt like a personal connection between Sting and the audience. “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” was a particular highlight. Its upbeat, joyful energy had everyone in the crowd singing and dancing along like we were all in on the secret of its magic. And when “Englishman in New York” played, it felt like a little spark of nostalgia for everyone in the room, its catchy tune and witty lyrics bringing the crowd together. But it was “Fields of Gold” that really took me somewhere else, with its haunting melody and heartfelt storytelling that left a lasting impact long after the song ended.
What stood out most was the minimalism of the show. Sting didn’t need elaborate effects or distractions; his talent spoke volumes. Backed by a band that provided subtle but masterful support, he reminded the crowd that music doesn’t need embellishment when it comes from the heart.
The Wiltern proved the perfect venue for this kind of performance—intimate yet grand enough to hold the weight of Sting’s artistry. By the end of the night, it was clear that Sting’s ability to connect with his audience hasn’t waned a bit, leaving fans with a renewed appreciation for his music and legacy. It was a night that I won’t forget, and a reminder that sometimes, the best kind of magic is the kind that doesn’t need any extra tricks.
