Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 10/07/2024—A new thriller-horror called “ABRUPTIO” is riveting and disturbing. The film used surrealistic, lifelike puppets. From the mind of Evan Marlowe, who wrote and directed the film. With Kerry Marlowe serving as the producer.
“ABRUPTIO” keeps you alert to the details of what’s going on. The film itself asks the audience to confront more profound messages within it. It makes you ponder amidst all the carnage that occurs. Anchor Bay Entertainment and HellBent Pictures distributed and produced the feature film. It has an incredible cast of award-winning actors who understand their roles.
What Is Horror About?
The film explored deep traumatic themes mixed with the craziest plots ever. Watching the movie by myself was crazy because it is a film that you watch with a group. I spent so much time asking myself what this is. No, like, who brought this into existence? In a clever way because this film is so fascinating.
ABRUPTIO is about Les Hackel, who the one and only James Marsters voiced. Hackles is in a dead-end job he hates, and he got ditched by his preppy girlfriend. On top of all that, despite being 45 and counting. He still lives with his parents, but that could be due to the state of the economy.
He felt like he was living in a loop until he woke up with an incision behind his neck. Alarmed, he tells somebody, his best friend Danny, who Jordan Peel voices. Danny tells him that it is a bomb implanted in his neck. Danny also had the same incisions, and it got weirder from there.
Les Hackel begins to receive messages from anonymous sources, forcing him to do unspeakable things with deadly endings. The never-ending horror events come one after the other for Les, who sometimes partners with a series of equally delirious characters.
What Makes It Worth the Watch?
As insane as all the violence within this film, it is not even half the most disturbing part. The plot thickens, as the people say, and it is nasty. Les figured out the reason for the messages and the end goal—a secret to breed a new monstrous race.
The whole film using realistic puppets made it even crazier. Considering all the bizarre
scenarios, the film is a comedy on its own. The side characters were able to connect with the audience in a brief time on screen. It shows much about the human perspective and the choices influencing us all.
What I found to be interesting kept my mind wandering. Escaping your problems can only lead you directly into more. Les is a clear example of this throughout ABRUPTIO. There is a price paid for every task he does. How far would you go? What is too far, mainly when the unspeakable has already occurred?
Christoper McDonald, Hanna Mae Lee, Sid Haig, and Robert Englund also lend their voices to this project. Who are playing oddball characters who are essential in aiding Hackles? The world that we enter moves so fast. The conclusion of it all was incredibly satisfying to me. But it could be a controversial ending for others.
Where to Watch “ABRUPTIO.” Evan Marlowe and the rest of the incredible crew of this production deserve all their flowers.
This horror is a classic cult film in the making. Prepare yourself for an adventure because it takes you all over.
Using lifelike puppets was a genius idea for horror, but this takes it to a different level. These are the generating ideas that are needed more on our big screens. The film was exceptional, and the dialogue was well-written.
