Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 12/28/21 – Pivoting a half-hour single-camera comedy produced by Liz Astrof. This series marked a turning point in Fox’s history of comedy series, which have predominately featured a male protagonist. In addition, the network will have two half-hour series with female leads (Pivoting and Call Me Kat), which has only occurred three times in the past decade.

Pivoting follows three women after the death of their best friend. Realizing life is short, the trio becomes desperate to find happiness, making impulsive, ill-advised decisions. Yet, through all of the self-indulgent drama, these ladies are able to strengthen their bond.

During the Fox TCA virtual press tour panel for the comedy, Astrof shared how Pivoting takes inspiration from her life experiences. She reflected on how a childhood friend’s death helped her and other loved ones reevaluate their own lives and seek out what to do with their left time.

“It just put light into perspective for all of us,” she recalled.

Astrof also said that the on-screen dynamics between Coupe, Goodwin, and Q remind her of those she shares with her friends.

“What I’ve noticed is how close we are and what the show is how we can be so gross in front of each other… everything is so intimate, and we laugh when we should be crying, and there’s no judgment,” she continued. “It’s unconditional love.”

About the cast

Amy, the producer of a local cooking show, will be played by Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings); she wants to spend more time with her kids but remains pretty clueless about parenting. Her husband, Henry, a private contractor, will be played by Tommy Dewey (Casual).

Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time) will be playing Jodie, a mother of three and a wife who, in an attempt to escape her smothering husband, has an affair with the gym trainer played by JT Neal (Bless This Mess).

Maggie Q (Nikita) is slated to play Sarah. She’s a recently divorced doctor whose wife had an affair and who’s now in the pursuit of the simpler joys in life.

Fox’s Pivoting premiered on Sunday, January 9th at 8:30/7:30 central. After which (on January 13th) the new comedy series will move to its regular time slot of Thursdays at 9:30/8:30 central.
