Panel discussion at The Groundlings Theatre will feature writers of iconic episode of Ellen Degeneres sitcom

Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 5/6/2024 – Tracy Newman and Jonathan Stark, longtime writing partners on the trailblazing sitcom Ellen, will be reuniting on stage for the “In Conversation: So You Want to Write for Television” panel series on Tuesday, May 14, at The Groundlings Theatre.

The appearance of part of the duo’s 50th anniversary celebration of their writing partnership. Newman and Stark co-wrote “The Puppy Episode” following Ellen’s coming out which became the series highest rated episode ever – more than 42 million viewers watched that groundbreaking episode. That episode earned multiple awards and became an iconic moment in television and pop culture history that is still reflected on and talked about today.

The pair also has contributed work to some of tleevision’s most successful situation comedies, including According to Jim, Cheers, Frasier, and The Simpsons to name just a few.

Now, nearly 30 years after this episode debuted, the pair will reunite on the famed Groundlings stage – a sort of a homecoming as Tracy is a founding member and Jonathan an alumnus – and they will be joined by comedic writer Jay Kogen (Frasier) to discuss this incredible episode along with sharing anecdotes from their storied careers in comedy.

Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8 p.m. The Groundlings Theatre is located  at 7307 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, and tickets are currently on sale on The Groundlings website.
