Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 1/5/25 – While the Palm Springs International Film Festival is known for showcasing a wide array of cinematic talent, this year, we were eager to spotlight the lesbian-focused films, though we could only find three notable selections.

Sally Gearhart, a Texas-born, fiery lesbian feminist, teacher, and fantasy writer, is brought to life in this vibrant and humorous tribute. Gearhart’s extraordinary journey includes working alongside Harvey Milk, founding a radical women’s commune in Northern California, and living a life full of activism and love.
JANIS IAN: BREAKING SILENCE | Palm Springs International Film Festival
This documentary chronicles the life of the iconic Janis Ian, whose career skyrocketed with her groundbreaking song “Society’s Child.” Ian’s story unfolds through struggles with homophobia, the misogynistic music industry, severe health challenges, and a tumultuous relationship with a gun-wielding lover.
THE SHAMELESS | Palm Springs International Film Festival
Set against the backdrop of India, this provocative drama explores the forbidden bond between Renuka, a seasoned sex worker on the run, and Devika, a young girl who is on a path that seems all too familiar. The film stars Anasuya Sengupta, winner of the 2024 Cannes Un Certain Regard Best Actress Award, and Omara Shetty.
