Los Angeles, California (The Hollywood Times) 7/27/24 – The Hollywood Heritage Museum opened their latest exhibit “Out with the Stars: Hollywood’s Famous and Forgotten Haunts” on June 29. The exhibit focuses on the nightclubs and restaurants that defined the golden age of Hollywood as a follow-up to their previous exhibit “Meet the Stars”.
The exhibit includes rare menus, historic neon signs, signature décor and artifacts from many legendary venues. Guests can also view a gallery dedicated to the Hollywood Homefront, take a photo in a Tiki display and view clothing worn by celebrities at nightclubs. Some of the venues included are: The Brown Derby, The Coconut Grove (Ambassador Hotel), The Biltmore, Clara Bow’s It Café, Thelma Todd’s Sidewalk Café, Ciro’s, Perino’s, Chasen’s, Pig n’ Whistle, Don the Beachcombers, The Hollywood Canteen, and rarely featured Pirates’ Den.
“Attending these restaurants and nightclubs on a regular basis was something like current day social media and allowed them to stay in the public eye,” shared Darin Barnes, co-curator of the exhibit. While most of the establishments have closed down since the golden age, Musso & Frank Grill as well as the buildings that housed the Earl Carroll Theater, Chasen’s and Ciro’s still remain intact.
“Our main gallery is dedicated to The Hollywood Canteen,” shared Barnes. “This is a first of its kind exhibit that features original items including autographs, ephemera and photos on display.”
