How much Olivia Rodrigo makes from her TikTok hits

Lil Nas X. Olivia Rodrigo. Doja Cat. Megan Thee Stallion.

What do these artists all have in common? In a word, TikTok.

Each with billions of plays of their songs on the platform, these artists have become some of the most famous in the world. Most of us have heard these artist’s songs (or even had them stuck in our heads) thanks to their wild popularity as “sounds” on the video app.

But how much money are these artists actually making from their viral TikTok hits? My team at WhistleOut was curious, so we calculated the potential earnings of the most popular TikTok songs from 2021.

You can check out the list of TikTok songs that are earning the most, here: https://www.whistleout.com/Internet/Guides/most-valuable-tiktok-songs-by-payout

Methodology:

To compile our list, we gathered data from Tokboard to find the top played songs on TikTok in each month between January 2021 and June 2021. Our list excludes songs with explicit titles as well as songs that are not available on Spotify. To calculate earnings, we multiplied each song’s number of plays on Spotify by the average payout per stream as according to Forbes.
