Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 9/25/22 – Monster High started as a series of Mattel dolls launched in 2010, then it made its way into an animated series, emphasizing inclusion in the high school setting. In 2021 Mattel redesigned the dolls featuring more inclusive body types, as well as making the characters have more inclusive lives. This fall viewers can expect the same from the live action TV musical.
During Paramount +’s most recent TCA (Television Critics Association) panel Executive Producer and Director Todd Holland discussed the film’s theme saying, “You must face the fear of living honestly to ever find happiness. And that is a message I needed to hear when I was nine years old, and it’s a message that could not be more important or timely today. Okay. A few shout-outs. We have an amazing cast both as performers and as truly lovely monsters in their own right. I love and value every one of them. I want to say thank you to Paramount+, Mattel, and Nickelodeon, especially Brian Robbins and also Zach Owen, a fellow Western Pennsylvania boy who was my exec at another network and then remembered my love affair with spooky, fun adventure and called me. And a special thanks to Adam Bonnett, our resident MONSTER HIGH IP guru and the best producing partner any director could ask for.”
Fans can also enjoy the new music video “Coming Out of the Dark” which features Clawdeen Wolf arriving to Monster High.
