Studio City, California (The Hollywood Times) 03/31/2023

Roadside Taco is located in Studio City on a Main Street, “Ventura Blvd.” This location is fairly large. Upon walking in, as you glance to your right, there is a beautiful hand painted mural of Los Angeles stretching across the booth wall. The city scape is silhouetted, but has a lovely complimentary color palette of purple, blue, yellow and orange to represent the LA skyline. Picado Banners are seen decorated all throughout the outside patio. These pops of color give both the planters hung all along the back wall as well as the multi-colored tables and chairs, a reminiscent history of pre-Hispanic era when Hispanics would create bright dyes using bright flowers, insects, and natural materials to create these wonderful vibrant pigments we see today.

The event was a takeover by Co-CEO Aron Marquez and A-lister Mark Wahlberg (an investor in the Flecha Azul Company); it proved to be a big hit. Showcasing their “Flecha Azul Tequila” couldn’t have been a greater success. They handed out both Blanco and Anejo tequilas. Throughout the rush both Aron and Mark took photos with guest and mixed and poured out shots to everyone who was eager to try out their product. One by one bottles were being purchased, and it looks like Flecha Azul is securing a place among other known tequila brands.

I was able to get a few words in with Aron Marquez about his distilling process and how it works. He was able to give me a quick insight and run down on how his blanco is distilled. I was informed that during the process of fermentation it settles in old aged bourbon barrels for about a six month period. It is then placed in stainless steal containers for the distillation process. This process takes the familiar dark amber color away (which is what you get if you were making an Anejo) from the bourbon barrels and filters it out to create that crystal clear liquid Blanco tequilas are known for. The distillation happens over a two to five day period. He also stated they would often leave the distilling process to take up to two weeks for a more livelier robust taste.

In addition, I highly recommend Roadside Tacos as stop if passing through Studio City. Though, despite me not having an opportunity to try their tasty selection of tacos, I’ve been told by customers who had a few that they are savory and great tasting. I’ll have to give them a try, the next time around. I was however able to take a few sips of Flecha Azul’s Blanco and Anejo Tequila’s and I have to say they are really easy to take down. The viscosity of the liquid is well balanced and fairly easy to drink. Either dry or on the rocks I highly recommend sipping both tequilas to enjoy the flavors of each. Distinct in their own ways I can say Flecha Azul is a great addition to the tequila world and, I definitely look forward to see and taste what they create in the near future.
