Foodies unite! The Los Angeles Times Food Bowl presented by City National Bank, is a fantastic month-long festival taking place this September, which celebrates the city’s diverse food scene combining the best of local eateries and world-renowned culinary talent.
Festivities will kick off with a launch party honoring The Times’ Restaurant of the Year, Anajak Thai and Gold Award honoree, Meals by Genet. The festivities will take place at the Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood on Thursday, September 1 with ticket prices starting at $150. The night will feature special tastings from exciting guest chefs, live DJs, as well as cocktails, beer & wine included. Tickets are available now.
On Sept 2-3, Food Bowl will also present two dining events in celebration of the Restaurant of the Year, Anajak Thai, chosen by Times Restaurant Critic Bill Addison. Chef Justin Pichetrungsi will serve up one-of-a-kind omakase dinners featuring 8-10 specially selected courses for 20 guests at a time. Tickets for both sessions are available now.
In honor of this year’s Gold Award honoree, Meals by Genet, selected by Times Food General Manager Laurie Ochoa, Food Bowl will present two multi-course dinner sessions on Sept. 9-10th. Semi-retired chef Genet Agonafer will open her restaurant’s doors in Little Ethiopia once again to host all-inclusive family style dinners featuring the menu’s finest dishes. Each dinner will include a selection of appetizers, mains, beer, wine and dessert. Tickets for both sessions are available now.
“Everyone who eats and everyone who works in the food industry is experiencing historic change,” said Ochoa, who recently became general manager of L.A. Times Food and is teaming with newly named Food Editor Daniel Hernandez.
On Sept. 23-25th, Food Bowl’s Night Market will take over the Paramount Pictures Studios backlot for a three-day outdoor food and drink festival, featuring tastings from more than 40 restaurants per session, libations, live cooking demonstrations, DJs and more. The all-inclusive ticketed events are “Smoked Soirée,” which will spotlight a themed street featuring BBQ and burger specialties from restaurants including Moo’s Craft BBQ, Heavy Handed Burgers and San Juan Capistrano’s Heritage Barbecue; “Saturday Night Flavor,” will highlight some of the city’s best international cuisine from Lunasia Dim Sum House, Tacos 1986 and Flavors from Afar among others; and “Backlot Brunch” with bites from L.A. classics and budding icons like Jitlada, Ditroit, The Brothers Sushi and more.
There is also a charity component: In their efforts to combat food insecurity in Los Angeles, the Food Bowl is supporting The L.A. Times Community Fund, where attendees can give back to nonprofits. Donations enable the event to make substantial contributions to non-profit organizations like Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Project Angel Food, World Central Kitchen, and No Us Without You.
