It was cold. I received a phone call that I better get down to the river ASAP there’s a happening, happening!
The river was completely frozen shore to shore, this was a first for me, the Hudson River Valley was my home yet I never had seen the river in full winter mode. It truly was a Happening.
People from both sides of the river meeting in the middle. There were kites flying, ice skating, river walkers, children ,dogs, sleds, warm drinks, picnics. Both young and old. We were all there anticipating one thing , a chance to see a sport that ran the river ice of the early 1900’s – Ice yachting!
Iceboats sailing across the river with speed and grace, darting from one side to the other, racing another under the bridge then back again. Not just one boat but several lining up in preparation of a sail. Bringing the past into the present and the folks commandeering these amazing vessels were on everyone’s spotlight. This was an unforgettable peek at an amazing sport- Here’s a few photos of the day with more to come.
