Here’s Your Gay Desert Guide Weekend: Feb 12–14, 2021

February 12–14, 2021

There’s love and COVID-19 in the air this Valentine’s Day weekend.  Just a year ago, I was on my way to New Zealand to start the Atlantis cruise to Sydney and Mardi Gras.  The virus was in topping the news, and many could not pass through Asia to board.  But we took few precautions other than using more hand sanitizer at the buffet.

By the time the trip was over, the world was quickly going into lockdown.  It would be the last vacation I took, and when I got back to Palm Springs the landscape had changed dramatically.  My parents, visiting from Michigan, joined the mass exodus of snowbirds who left for home.

Fast forward a year and we are slowly emerging from our International nightmare.  On Thursday,
/campaigns/org670682466/sitesapi/files/images/670109687/IMG_8080.jpgmembers of the media toured the Palm Springs Convention Center’s new COVID-19 vaccine clinic.  Jimmy Boegle, from the Coachella Valley Independent, commented that he had not been in that particular space since White Party two years earlier.  We saw socially-distanced public officials show how the cavernous space is now being used to save lives.
So off we go into the second half of February with a reimagined Valentine’s Day weekend and what would normally be one of the busiest with President’s Day on Monday.  Keep up with all the happenings in ##ILoveGayPalmSprings with this newsletter and our blog linked below.
Oh, a happy Lunar New Year.  It’s 4719, the Year of the Ox.  Or as my friends, Henry and Bob put it “OXOXOXOXO” with love in the new year!
