Memorial Day Weekend
May 26–29, 2023

Brad Fuhr PS Art Museum

By all means we should have a nice, relaxing long holiday weekend to celebrate the beginning of summer.  Boyz Night Out is back, pool parties abound, and the grill is ready to sizzle.
Trouble is, our LGBTQ+ community is being attacked in ways that are frightening to me. Target is the “target” of the latest campaign of hate and a boycott.  There’s a Twitter troll @MattWalshBlog – who started this according to reports on NBC.  He delights in the PR in a Tweet this morning acknowledging his role:

NBC News makes a number of accusations against me in this article and I just want to say that the accusations are all true pic.twitter.com/NBnp07g6jF

That’s what we’re up against. So by all means, enjoy the weekend. But remember that we are being forced back in the closet as the right chips away at our rights.

I never intended that this intro to my weekend rundown of fun would become a forum for political awakening. But it’s necessary to do so given the state of affairs today. In Monday’s blog, I’ll tell you about how a local veterans’ group is honoring us on Memorial Day – and fighting back against hate among their ranks.
