Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 9/20/21 – While Vietnam largely escaped last year’s pandemic, even recording 0 cases at one point, while the rest of the world was in lockdown, the new delta variant has now created a pandemic in the country, with 550,996 confirmed cases and 13,701 related deaths, as reported by the CDC and WHO.  While Saigon is currently under complete lockdown, even rural neighborhoods are experiencing the pressure by army troops deployed to enforce stay at home orders, in a way that was never seen in America.

On October 2, 2021, from 9 am to noon, the City of Fountain Valley will host a “Walk for Vietnam” to raise funds and bring awareness.  The event will be held at the Mile Square Park Tennis Center at 16400 Brookhurst St, Fountain Valley, CA 92708.

This is a partnership between the City, the Fountain Valley Rotary Club and Project Oasis Compati, with Mayor Michael Vo, Ted Bui and Roxanne Chow as the representatives.  Funds will be distributed to American nonprofits who are vetted and doing recent tangible work in Vietnam to distribute supplies and food items to the needy.

Last Friday, on September 17, 2021, at the city chambers, Mayor Michael Vo held a press conference to answer questions about the event and fundraising with buy-in from the city manager, the police and fire departments as well as local nonprofits ready to contribute and get involved.

Mayor Michael Vo and Fountain Valley are impressive in their community efforts, going above and beyond what other cities have done, in their community outreach efforts and support for local businesses.

Earlier this year, during complete shutdown of Californian society, Michael Vo helped businesses, especially restaurants, stay open with common sense parameters, and simultaneously provided free COVID testing, working with Mayor David Shawver in Stanton to get residents tested.

The ability to balance this demonstrated true leadership and puts Fountain Valley on the radar to watch for future growth, as the Council contemplates a Downtown revitalization with nightlife, to stimulate economic growth and activity beyond Costco.
