“The Failed Insurrection and Coup of 2021”

The United States of America for over two Centuries, has had presidential elections through wars, and we have endured, and she will continue to endure.

“Today was another day that will live in infamy. After the Capitol Hill shooting, the entire security of the Capitol complex was revamped. Really? Where was it? Where were the security people? What was the failure?”

The incidents of today should’ve never happened. The incidents of today were fueled by the rhetoric of one President Donald J. Trump. This was the culmination of the last 5 years of what started down the escalator steps at Trump Tower.  Today NEVER should’ve happened.  Today is the formality of the certification of electors that were certified by each of the fifty states of this great nation.

There has been only two times in our nation’s history that our capitol was laid siege. Once in 1812 and the other, today.  Today we brought this hell upon ourselves.  The claims of election fraud were mentioned by Donald J Trump before the election ever occurred. Today, the sad thing is, Trump used his supporters, trying to fund raise off the backs of them and lying to them and sat in the oval office watching this all unfold by… his… hand!  We must join hands today and were called outrageous names and epitaphs and that together, we shall overcome as the late Senator John Lewis crossed the Edmond Pettus Bridge.

A bit of history: John Adams moved back to Massachusetts so that the new president Thomas Jefferson could take power; PEACEFULLY!  The other countries across the world couldn’t believe that that’s how easier the transfer of power could be.  We are NOT the HATFIELDS and MCCOYS! We are Americans. Our great ancestors have spilled blood for our freedom, and we shall again. But today was a wakeup call.  Today we saw the brutality of a part of our nation that would do anything for one man, not the constitution, politicians and common people alike.

Convinced the election was stolen, thousands of Trump supporters storm the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6 as Congress counts and certifies the Electoral College vote.

You cannot do great things together as American’s if you hate your neighbors. DO NOT let the screamers and media monetize themselves because of you.  Cut your neighbor’s grass. Go grocery shopping for your elderly neighbor.  Offer your hand in friendship, your elbow bump instead of a hug, for just a bit more.  Smile through your mask (your eyes will show your smile or get one of those clear masks).

Today, our house, the Capitol, a sacred place, was desecrated and the speaker’s office, overtaken. These THUGS were fueled by no basis in facts. This president begs, coaxes and the lengths he will go to are obvious and there are still 14 days left until the 20th of January when President-elect Joseph R Biden takes the solemn office of President of the United States.  No evidence of a “rigged” election. NONE WHATSOEVER!  Hays and Tilden is echoed today with the commission by the Congress that started Jim Crow and stopped reconstruction.

The senator from Texas STILL BELIEVES there needs to be a commission to DELAY the certification of the vote of Biden even after over 55 failed attempts in courts by mostly Trump appointees and the Supreme Court, twice.  Yes, there needs to be a faith and a confidence in voting. Yes, we need to ensure transparency among the states but today’s not the day to take up that debate.  Today we are to do as we have done for over two centuries, to simply certify the electors.

Today, however, the insurrection and coup, has failed. The Senate and House continue to meet.  They are continuing to do the work of, for and by the American people. Today is the feast of the epiphany.  Let me share with you the song of St. Francis of Assisi.

Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there is hatred, let me bring Your love
Where there is injury, Your pardon Lord
And where there’s doubt, true faith in You

Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there’s sadness, ever joy

Oh Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul

Make me a channel of Your peace
It is pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life

Oh Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul

Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there’s sadness, ever joy

We are ONE COUNTRY, ONE DESTINY! This was also what was embroidered on President Abraham Lincoln’s coat on that fateful night.  This was also put on a flag that Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave to the late congressman John Lewis a week before he left us.
I tweeted to VP Pence, now, I’m not saying that he saw my tweet, but I’d like to think so.  I tweeted to him before and after he did what he did today.  Again, I’d like to think, that in that fleeting moment, that one single tweet, got to him.  Today Vice President Michael Pence had the courage to do what the President, cowering in the west wing watching the TV with his Twitter account, LOCKED. What did he do? VP Pence gave the go for the National Guard to be deployed in DC. That man has BALLS! He grew a spine that took 4 years to grow. He did what was necessary and commanded.
We have a STRONG country, and she will prevail. Why? Because WE THE PEOPLE stand for something, and we are the longest lasting constitutional democracy in the world. PERIOD!  Democracy is a war in which to resolve differences.  All of America is in this human experiment. “It is traditionally American to fight hard before an election. It is equally traditional to close ranks as soon as the people have spoken.” These are the words of Adlai Stephenson when he conceded, gracefully, to President-elect Dwight D Eisenhower.
THIS is how it’s supposed to be. NOT BULLETS, NOT VIOLENCE, BUT RESPECT and HONOR. The chance to object and do it peacefully do it within the chambers of Congress.  So, I leave you with this: At the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Franklin was asked what sort of government the delegates had created. His answer: “A republic, if you can keep it.”
