Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 6/26/22 – Los Angeles-based rapper Datboykalifa aka DBK, has just released a new single entitled “Big Bag.” The song is upbeat with a catchy hook accompanied by vocals from DBK and Lil IF. The premise revolves around the two living a luxurious lifestyle and knowing they must continue working hard to maintain it. For those not familiar with his backstory, DBK is a rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He recorded his first single in 2009 and currently performs across southern California. With 31 singles and 3 Ep’s to his credits, DBK doesn’t seem to be letting up. His latest project, Reinvented, has reached over 110k streams on Spotify. So, what will he do next?
THT had the opportunity to interview DBK to discuss music, his multiple business ventures, and future.
THT: How did you get your start in the rap game?
DBK: It started off as a hobby I use to write a lot of short stories and poetry, fortunately I was inspired before I was sentenced to prison so it’s safe to say music literally saved my life if I wasn’t inspired to write songs, I wouldn’t be alive.
THT: What separates your music from other west coast rappers?
DBK: The difference between me and other West Coast rappers is my Unique sound and my ability to be versatile and creative. Lil Wayne and Young money till this day are still my biggest inspiration and influencers in this Rap game.
THT: You wear many hats, outside of rapping what’s your favorite thing to work on?
DBK: I’m Behind the scenes a lot and I meet and network with different entrepreneurs all the time learning is an everlasting process. Listening, learning, and networking to build up my value is my favorite thing to work on.
THT: Are you currently working on any projects?
DBK: I’m working on multiple projects right now with my management team POLITIKAN Broadcasting, filming a biography documentary on my journey in the rap game, also working on a live podcast show based off my media company DawinningTeam. I just Registered DawinningTeam and it is now an official publishing company. I’m also partnering with J reed CEO of DueceDueceDistrictEnt, we are working together on my newest single entitled “BIG BAG” with the official music video filmed by YdFiLMz and directed by DawinningTeam, it will be globally distributed through The Orchard x Sony Music.
THT: What advice would you give up and coming artists?
DBK: Stay consistent no matter if you get 10 views/likes or 10 million views/likes every win counts small or big. Also, do your research and remember learning is an everlasting process, it won’t stop until you do. Last but most importantly in my opinion never lower your expectations to meet your performance higher your level of performance to meet your expectations then do what is necessary to make your dreams a reality.
