Indio, CA (The Hollywood Times) 4/18/23 – Apparently, headliner Frank Ocean was not being as evasive after being 1 hour late to begin his set, as some attendees felt, when he announced, “Guys, I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show.” For the first time in recent Coachella history, the notable music festival has incurred a fine of over $100,000 for breaking curfew for the first 3 nights of the festival.
Coachella, famous for back-to-back weekends of eclectic music, thrift-forward outfits, and eccentricity personified, was hit with the fine by the popular Goldenvoice concert company, and the city of Indio. An Indio city permit from 2013 outlines that performances must conclude by 1 am, lest the popular concert be hit with upwards of $20,000 for each day the show runs over time. Those artists who are responsible for incurring the fines alongside Ocean were headliner Bad Bunny, who went over during his set by 22 minutes, and Calvin Harris who exceeded his scheduled time by 25 minutes.
Though no huge feat to the world-renowned festival, Coachella will need to settle this debt very soon with the city of Indio. Be sure to tune in to available live streams of your favorite artists on Coachella stages for weekend 2–hopefully, everyone practices excellent time management!
