Angela Lansbury, ‘Murder, She Wrote’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and Broadway Star has passed away at 96

“The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday,” her family said in a statement.

An American actress and singer who played many film, theatre, and television roles. Her career, one of the longest in the entertainment industry, spanned over 80 years, much of it in the United States; her work also received much international attention. At the time of her death, she was one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema. (Wikipedia)

A fan favorite, watching her in “Murder She Wrote” and continuing to do so in reruns.

Angela Lansbury won a Golden Globe Award for best actress in a television drama series for “Murder She Wrote” at the 47th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 21, 1990, in Beverly Hills, California. Well deserved indeed.

Angela Lansbury was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, a record 12 times,  failing to win each year, although she did receive four Golden Globe awards for her performance.

“Murder, She Wrote” was also nominated three times for an Emmy Award as Outstanding Drama Series.

Lansbury is survived by her two children during her 53-year marriage to producer Peter Shaw, and a stepson from Shaw’s previous marriage.
