(Palm Springs, CA) – After a two-year hiatus, Desert Gold at Ace Hotel & Swim Club, Palm Springs, returns for its 13th edition during the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival weekends with an array of programming to bliss the body and muse the mind, including live performances by Sudan Archives and Esty; resident DJs Pangea Sound and Chulita Vinyl Club; a Future Classic night and with Desert Gold mainstay The Do-Over returning for their annual Sunday throwdowns. Los Angeles based Analog Culture Collective In Sheep’s Clothing will take over The Amigo Room at the hotel, curating nightly DJs as well as a beverage program inspired by the former In Sheep’s Clothing hi-fi bar. Ace Hotel & Swim Club will also unveil its new, large-scale mural on the Commune wall from artist Kris Chau.

Global dance music collective and party-makers Pangea Sound anchor weekend one as resident DJs, with daytime poolside sets Friday through Sunday. Saturday’s Pangea Sound kickback will be hosted by Tribe and EngineEars, before ceding to Los Angeles-based Sudan Archives for her headlining set. Sunday sees The Do-Over return their legendary party to the Commune, bringing a roster of always-incredible talent and surprise guests from around the world. Past years have included the likes of Virgil Abloh, Kaytranada, Questlove, A-Trak (Duck Sauce), Ape Drums (Major Lazer), Busy P, Benji B & more.

The second weekend of programming kicks off Thursday night, April 21 with record label Future Classic throwing a party in the Amigo Room. All-vinyl, all-genre, all-women DJ collective Chulita Vinyl Club will hit the decks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday poolside. Saturday’s headlining performance comes from Los Angeles-based Esty, whose Estyland EP came out in February 2022. The Do-Over will rejoin to close out the proceedings on Sunday.

From Friday through Sunday across both weekends, the hotel is pleased to welcome In Sheep’s Clothing to The Amigo Room. The ISC crew will take over the space, programming a rotating roster of DJs and contributing a drinks menu featuring cocktails from their beloved hi-fi bar in Los Angeles.

ACE HOTEL

Ace has locations in Seattle, Portland, New York, Palm Springs, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Kyoto and Brooklyn. Ace Hotel Sydney and Ace Hotel Toronto will open in Summer 2022.

ACE HOTEL & SWIM CLUB

Ace Hotel & Swim Club is our modern, mid-century desert marvel, born in 2009 in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. An all-inclusive spa and resort within biking distance of downtown, Ace Hotel & Swim Club is close to Joshua Tree, the Salton Sea, Salvation Mountain, all kinds of historic desert modern architecture and tons of great vintage shopping. It’s also the best place in Palm Springs to get a laid-back massage or natural treatment at the Feel Good Spa, or to get hitched under big sky lights for a dreamy desert to-do. Two pools, a vintage photo booth, tacos and more at King’s Highway, nightly events at the Amigo Room and a gym round out the basics. Bring your kids, bring your dog — we’re family and pet-friendly.

KRIS CHAU

The artist Kris Chau was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi by Ann and Alan Chau, who were Refugees from the Vietnam/American War. Her Art Practice is the study and interpretation of Cosmologies and our relationships to them.

SUDAN ARCHIVES

Sudan Archives contains multitudes. She first emerged as an avant-garde violinist who channeled her playing through loop pedals. But she’s also much more than that: a lovelorn songwriter, powerful vocal performer and experimental beatmaker. She’s captivated audiences at festivals around the world with her hybrid sound, playing at Coachella, Pitchfork Midwinter and FORM: Arcosanti, and sharing stages with St. Vincent, Ibeyi and Michael Kiwanuka while touring her trailblazing EPs Sudan Archives (2017) and Sink (2018). Sudan’s many identities truly coalesce in her debut album, Athena (2019): a psychedelic, magnetic take on modern R&B that’s unlike anything else you’ve heard.

ESTY

Dominican-American creator Esty is a lot of things — a singer, rapper, songwriter, a skilled roller skater, a lover of all things very cute and a strong presence on both Instagram and TikTok. Her sound is a surprising mix of future-warped dembow and sonic nods to anime dipped in electronic alt-pop. Singing and rapping in Spanglish, the Venice, California-based artist promotes an empowering union of emotional vulnerability and personal strength. The melodies are earwormy but fresh; Esty’s music is quickly identifiable as her thing. She is a singular force. Esty’s EP Estyland came out Feb 2022.

CHULITA VINYL CLUB

Chulita Vinyl Club is made up of women, gender-nonconforming, nonbinary, LGBTQ+ and self-identifying people of color and is made up of seven chapters nationally. Chulita Vinyl Club launched in 2014, with the context of providing a safe space for empowerment, togetherness and to utilize music and vinyl as a form of resistance against the erasure of culture.

PANGEA SOUND

Pangea Sound is an authentic, highly-acclaimed collective and experiential event series founded on the passion to bring music cultures together. Fusing fresh sounds from the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America, USA and everywhere in between, Pangea Sound is bridging the gap and creating an all-inclusive environment — this is The Global Sound.

THE DO OVER

“Parties are always better with surprises. Especially when they boast a lineup of some of the most respected and musically dope DJs on the planet — and it doesn’t cost a dollar for admission. Enter the Do-Over.” – MIAMI NEW TIMES

Established in 2005 in Los Angeles, the magical tropical daytime get-down has spread its fun-loving funky sounds across the world with a philosophy of keeping all guest DJ’s a mystery encouraging attendees to leave all hype and expectations at home. Expect the unexpected – from disco to dancehall, house to hip-hop, soul to samba.

IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING

In Sheep’s Clothing hi-fi began in 2018 as a listening bar in Los Angeles’ Arts District. Powered by a legendary Klipschorn soundsystem and a collection of 300+ records from around the world, In Sheep’s Clothing hi-fi created a truly one-of-a-kind sonic music discovery experience that took the jazz-kissa concept to new heights. After closing the listening bar in 2020 due to the pandemic, ISC has continued to cultivate discovery and community through active listening experiences, live shows, music editorial and their brick-and-mortar record shop on Fairfax.
