Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 12/16/22 – Fox has returned with its winter 2023 line up, one of which includes the court room anthology series Accused. The series follows fifteen crime stories weighing in from a defendant perspective and giving viewers no back story as to how they ended up on trial. But through flashbacks viewers will get to see the defendant’s point of view unfold, allowing them to discover their indiscretions; shifting their ordinary lives into unbelievable circumstances. During Fox’s (TCA) Winter Press Day executive producer Howard Gordan said, “Every episode is an unpredictable entertaining ride, but also one that challenges viewers to think a little differently and ask themselves a question more profound than innocence or guilt. What would I have done?”
This BBC based series is unique in that each episode will explore a different crime, city, and casts. The extensive roster includes; Rachel Bilson, Margo Martindale, Molly Parker, Jacj Davenport, Ried Miller, August Maturo, Michael Chiklis, Jill Hennessy, Oakes Fegley, Robert Wisdom, Whitney Cummings, Abigail Breslin, Aisha Dee, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Karen LeBlanc, Wendell Pierce, Jean-Michel Le Gal, Stephanie Nogueras, Joshua Castille, Megan Boone, Lauren Ridloff, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Baron Vaughn, Sean Kleier, Rhea Pearlman, Aaron Ashmore, and Daphne Rubin-Vega. In addition, a team of directors were added to assist producers Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa (Homeland), and David Shore (House) man each episode. The team includes Brad Turner Jonathan Mostow, Lee Rose, Marlee Matlin, Billy Porter, Chiklis, Michael Cuesta, Julie Hebert, Clark Johnson, and Michael Offer.
Gordon was also asked by tv critics press how he went about choosing all the directors and if the anthology style of the series makes it easier for viewers to keep up his response was, “I mean, it is an anthology episode, which is a perfect antidote. I’ll quote John Landgraf well, although, I can’t remember what his exact quote was, but to the complete overwhelming, you know, nature of this sort of even the idea of – “bingeing” to me is a disgusting word, the way we consume series, and with this there’s no meat, there’s no fat on the bone of these stories. It is really lean; this is compelling storytelling that you can watch in any kind of order. And so, as a viewing experience I think it’s going to be a promising one.
In terms of the episodes that we assigned or developed, I mean, look, we wrote, and we just said who’s the fantasy director for this episode? These are stories that we just sort of picked this fantasy team and we just got a lot of great RSVPs.”
Accused will premiere on Sunday, January 22nd and then make its time period premiere on Tuesday, January 24th, following the season 4 debut of 911: Lone Star.
