I have to say I was so excited to be part of a media day at Space Command Studios to see how the world of Space Command comes to life for TV. I thank the PR firm R&CPMK for the invite and opportunity for the interviews.

They were filming of the latest Space Command film installment titled Space Command: The Great Solar War.
Created by sci-fi writer/producer/director Marc Scott Zicree (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Babylon 5, Deep Space Nine, Sliders), the series launched its first film installment, Space Command: Redemption which recently debuted on Amazon Prime Video and Google Play, available now for rent or purchase.
Space Command: Redemption boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including familiar veteran sci fi TV and film greats in many of the lead and supporting roles including: Doug Jones (Star Trek: Discovery), Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek), Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager, Stargate Atlantis), Mira Furlan (Lost, Babylon 5), Bill Mumy (Lost in Space, Babylon 5), Armin Shimerman (Deep Space Nine), Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5) and Faran Tahir (J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek). Famed astrophysicist Neil Degrasse Tyson (Cosmos) also appears. For several lead roles in the film, including Capt. Kemmer, the Zicrees – rather than cast already famous actors – publicized an open call audition. The Zicrees received 7,000 inquiries and 1,200 video audition submissions before casting McDowell in the lead role, along with Sara Maraffino (Girlboss, Pretty Little Liars).
Here is my interview with director Marc Zicree, who talks about Space Command development and his latest installment. Enjoy:
Written, produced and directed by Marc Zicree, along with his wife and creative partner, Elaine Zicree, the Space Command series takes audiences on an unforgettable journey across the cosmos, following the epic journey of Captain Jack Kemmer (McDowell) who sets in motion a revolution that changes galactic history. The film comes to audiences via the Zicrees’ independent production company, Space Command Studios that was launched via a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, allowing the filming and production for Space Command: Redemption. The Zicrees’ mission is to create inspiring and socially relevant films and TV series.
After the interview Marc and I discussed me being on the set as an extra and I will definitely take him up on that one.
Here are a few photos I took during my visit. It sure was great to hear Marc say action and everyone in character bringing the movie to life. I can’t wait to become a new fan of this amazing film series and will continue to follow Space Command.
Prior to launching his career as a television writer in the ‘80s on a series of hit animated shows (The Smurfs, The Real Ghostbusters, Super Friends, He-Man, Captain Power), Marc Zicree established his creds in the sci-fi world with his groundbreaking book, The Twilight Zone Companion, a volume responsible for launching the modern genre of books on TV series, and has inspired the current generation of TV showrunners and filmmakers, including J.J. Abrams, Vince Gilligan, and Star Trek’s Brannon Braga and Ron Moore. An instant bestseller with over half a million copies sold to date, it was named by the New York Times as one of “10 science fiction books for the ages.”
I also had the opportunity to interview actor Nathaniel Freeman, who plays Captain Charles Chilton on the new film Space Command: The Great Solar War. Enjoy!

About Marc Scott Zicree
Growing up a child, Marc Scott Zicree became obsessed with all things sci-fi and embraced fantastic stories about outer space as a way to travel in his imagination as far away as it could take him. Zicree credits three TV shows – The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and Star Trek – with inspiring his dreams of becoming a writer. Prior to launching his career as a television writer in the ‘80s on a series of hit animated shows (“The Smurfs,” “The Real Ghostbusters,” “Super Friends,” “He-Man,” “Captain Power”), Zicree established his creds in the sci fi world with his groundbreaking (and still very popular generations later) “The Twilight Zone Companion,” a volume responsible for launching the modern genre of books on TV series and which has inspired the current generation of TV showrunners and filmmakers, including J.J. Abrams, Vince Gilligan and “Star Trek’s” Brannon Braga and Ron Moore. An instant bestseller with over half a million copies sold to date, it was named by the New York Times as one of “10 science fiction books for the ages.” In addition to his expansive array of creative activities, Zicree and his wife Elaine continue to run The Table, an organization they founded years ago that has provided a supportive roundtable styled community offering guidance, mentorship and fellowship for thousands of industry professionals and aspiring writers in Hollywood and around the world at no charge. Zicree’s fascinating life and career sparked the interest of NPR, who hired him as a monthly commentator on Morning Edition, telling stories of his life. Decades later, realizing, like many literary writers and show creators, that after all his years in the sci fi business, he is his own brand – following a fellow TV creative’s advice and launched his own YouTube channel, “Mr. Sci-Fi.” HERE.
