Octavia Spencer to be honored at Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival!

0
We are excited to honor Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer with the James Schamus Ally Award at Outfest Los Angeles 2021 Closing Night Gala being held Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the Orpheum.

The James Schamus Ally Award recognizes a great ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and as noted by our very own Executive Director, Damien Navarro, Spencer’s “body of work is made up of such a diversity of roles, and has brought great empathy and opened conversations about aspects faced by many members of our QTBIPOC community and audiences.”

Spencer tells Entertainment Weekly, “It is important to open hearts and minds through authentic storytelling.”

We couldn’t agree more! Thank you for helping us do just that.

 Opening Night Gala
As our Opening Night returns us to in-person gatherings at Outfest, and we celebrate our community’s resilience and spirit, we can think of no film more perfectly joyous to mark the occasion than this big-screen adaptation of Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae’s smash-hit West End musical.

Featuring an array of dazzling, colorful musical numbers with catchy tunes and special in-person appearances by Max Harwood, Lauren Patel, Jonathan Butterell as well as Bianca del Rio, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is the kind of film that communal movie-going experiences were made for, and the ideal way for Outfest to throw a truly memorable welcome-back party!

A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
Having a kinda terrible day? WANDA can help. No really, the film is that good. It stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, and Michael Palin as a band of diamond thieves on the hunt to find, well, stolen diamonds. It’s hilarious and smart and I know you will love it. The characters are eccentric and larger than life—and Curtis, Kline, and Palin really prove out their comedy chops inhabiting each of them.
