Blues Pioneer Buddy Guy Recalls the First Song He Ever Learned to Play on Paul Shaffer Plus One Sunday, Oct. 20 at 8pE

Groundbreaking Blues guitarist Buddy Guy sits down to discuss his acclaimed career and jam on some of his favorite songs with fellow music icon Paul Shaffer in an all-new episode of the AXS TV original series Paul Shaffer Plus One—airing Sunday, October 20 at 8pE/5pP.

In this exclusive first look, Buddy Guy shares a special anecdote about the first song he ever learned how to play—the signature John Lee Hooker hit “Boogie Chillen.” He stumbled on the classic riff as a child, while relaxing on the woodpile outside his home. “When my fingers got locked on ‘Boogie Chillen’, I was dozin’ off to sleep,” he explains. “I woke up, I said, ‘I better not ever turn this loose, ‘cause I’ll never find this lick again!’” He was so proud of his accomplishment that he set out on foot until he finally found someone he could play it for. “I walked six miles to let somebody know I found John Lee Hooker!” Guy charmingly concludes. Watch it here.

Paul Shaffer Plus One airs every Sunday at 8pE/5pP, only on AXS TV. Next week, legendary Spinal Tap bassist Derek Smalls (portrayed by beloved funnyman Harry Shearer) joins Paul in studio on October 27.
