When Brian Fechino and I first started working on the record, he noticed that in almost every conversation I would say, “that’s real.” It became my own kind of shorthand for “true” or “I agree,” something I said so naturally that I didn’t even realize it, until Brian pointed it out and said, “We have to write that.” From there, the phrase evolved into the central concept of the record. We explored what “that’s real” really means, and the song became about letting go, not worrying about what others think, and embracing the joy of being genuine and fully yourself.
