The Week of Mar 23 Starts Here 🌴 Gay Desert Guide & KGAY

Here’s a look at what’s happening this week in #ILoveGayPalmSprings.  But first, my blog:

In the flurry of news about war, oil prices and the Supreme Court  you may have missed that the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida has been demolished.

On March 16th, the iconic Pulse sign came down.  Days later, the City of Orlando tore into the roof and within days it was nothing but a pile of rubble.

June 12, 2016 will live in our community’s psyche forever as we woke up that Sunday morning to the devastating news that a mass shooting had taken place just hours before.  As we watched TV reports and scrolled social media posts, the extent of the horror began to unfold.

49 people died in the deadliest mass shooting in US History.  And the target was our LGBTQ+ community.

We hurriedly organized a vigil on Arenas Road.  Then on that Thursday, another vigil by Vincent Corrales at  Francis Stevens Park.

Monday kicks off with Sage & Friends, a free and uplifting evening dedicated to honoring LGBTQ+ life and contributions within the Palm Springs community.  Brad Fuhr will present an award to Barry McCabe.

Wednesday features the fabulous Guide Dogs of the Desert Easter Bonnet Auction, where fierce bidding on bonnets and drag performances help fund life-changing medical care. Experience A Cabbello – Broadway Lights the Way, with inspiring songs of love and justice. Mingle with new friends at The Center Social – March, an inviting monthly happy hour perfect for expanding your social circle in a relaxed setting, this month at Arrive hotel. Dive into global stories at the American Documentary and Animation Film Festival, a world-class showcase of compelling nonfiction and animated storytelling running Wednesday–Sunday.

Thursday goes “roar” for PRIDE for the Pride, celebrating lion conservation at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. The Palm Springs International Pride Hockey Tournament kicks off with a celebration at Hunters, leading into a full weekend of high-energy competition and celebration running Thursday–Sunday. Canna Week Coachella Valley is a week-long celebration of culture and commerce throughout the region running Thursday–Sunday.

Friday begins the PS Book Fest, a three-day literary celebration featuring author conversations and community programming for readers and non-readers alike. Join the crowd for the Karen Devine Walk of the Stars Dedication, honoring a local broadcasting legend for her amazing humanitarian and career contributions. Enjoy a jazz-filled journey through show business with Nicolas King – Tales of a Broadway Baby! performing Friday–Saturday.

In theatre: Catch the “ghost with the most” in the wild and visually inventive spectacle Beetlejuice – The Musical, which transforms a beloved story into big laughs. Experience the intimate one-woman play JBKO, featuring a tour-de-force performance capturing the resilient essence of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Finally, celebrate the 1960s with Beehive: The ’60s Musical, a high-energy revue featuring forty chart-topping hits from legendary female icons.

This weekend: Join the No Kings – Coachella Valley rallies, celebrate empowerment at Trans Pride 2026, build collective resilience at the Brothers of the Desert 7th Annual Wellness Summit, or enjoy the elegant Faux Fur Ball 2026. Music lovers can attend Opera in the Park, the You Gotta Have Heart concert by Desert Winds Freedom Band, or the Prince tribute Marshall Charloff & The Purple xPeRIeNCE. Dance at the Lez Party Spring Dance, celebrate The Red Barn’s first anniversary, or explore the mystical Queer Arcana art exhibit.
