Located just outside of Seattle, Kent is a growing suburb known for its diverse community and expanding business sector. Last week, the city’s Kent Chamber of Commerce hosted “The Era of Her Conference,” a two day event focused on empowering women through leadership, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. Led by CEO Zenovia Harris, the two day event kicked off on Thursday, March 5th, bringing together women from across the city for a series of discussions, networking opportunities, and empowerment focused sessions. On day one, attendees were treated to a fashion show, hors d’oeuvres and networking opportunities. For fashion, designs featured included wardrobe and accessories from local boutiques Chicos, Platinum Plush, African Print Takeover, and Road Runner Sports. Models from various backgrounds also showcased each fashion line highlighting diverse styles while celebrating creativity.

On day two, attendees were treated to brunch, shopping opportunities with local vendors, photobooth fun, and a keynote address by the chamber’s CEO Zenovia Harris, who encouraged women to own their space and authenticity while maintaining confidence and trust in their own unique skills and abilities. Harris also emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship, community advocacy, and spoke about the growing role of women in the workplace and in leadership positions. Following the keynote address, attendees also heard from a wide range of panelists and guest speakers pertaining to subjects on financial wellness and career navigation. Speakers also provided advice and insights on professional growth, overcoming workplace challenges, and building successful careers across multiple industries. Some of those speakers and panelists include entrepreneur and former Microsoft VP Dametra Johnson, healthcare professional and owner of Kent’s Sweet Themes Bakery Dr. Terri Ameri, and Karen Dove, Executive Director of ANEW.

Harris then led two fireside chats during the event, first with Mortgage Loan Officer Jessica Talton and later with myself. During our conversation, I had the opportunity to speak on overcoming adversity, navigating through the changing media landscape with the incorporation of AI, managing criticism in the editorial industry, and future aspirations. In all, the discussions held throughout the conference cemented lasting impressions to those present, and showcased real and genuine connection from the women in the community.
To conclude the conference, Harris announced the winner of the “Impactful Woman of Kent” award, which was presented to Kyan Minor of Nana’s Southern Kitchen, recognized for her hard work and services for the community. In the end, guests left feeling uplifted, inspired, and motivated to continue pursuing success and fulfilling their visions. Until the next women’s conference, follow the Kent Chamber of Commerce for information on upcoming events, workshops, and networking opportunities. Thank you to all the vendors, sponsors, and panelists who contributed to such a successful and impactful conference.
