Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 03/04/2026

On March 2nd, I was able to interview Dylan Mooney, an immensely talented actor with credits on multiple hit shows like The Pitt (HBO/Max) and Modern Family.

Mooney is also a producer and a director. We had an in-depth discussion about his approach to acting and getting into his role as Charles Davis, an aggrieved father.

Throughout the interview, Mooney had endless praise for the hard-working and skilled people who helped to make The Pitt such a successful medical drama series. Listening to him discuss the fast-paced style on set which makes The Pitt and the portrayal of how busy a real hospital, was fascinating. Although filming is a complex process with hundreds of people and innumerable tasks to be completed, it seems to be just as much cohesion and camaraderie behind the scenes as there is on camera.

The surreal feelings of working on a medical drama series in the aftermath of a global pandemic was another engaging topic Dylan expounded on. With The Pitt’s plot being so grounded and genuine to the reality of overworked medical professionals, it wasn’t lost on him how strenuous the past few years must have been for actual medical professionals. We discussed how both watching and acting on a show as authentic as The Pitt can make people more sympathetic to the plight of all healthcare workers. Increasing appreciation for a critical workforce is a great example of how influential television can be and why the work actors do is so important.

One of the most informative segments of this interview was when Mooney delved into the behind-the-scenes aspects of acting. Working with directors to achieve the idiosyncrasies of a role can be challenging and Mooney doesn’t sugarcoat it. When actors are passionate about their craft, it usually translates to on-screen excellence and Mooney’s performances are emblematic of this.

The Pitt follows the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency department over a grueling 15-hour shift, with each hour depicted in real time, as they face medical crises, personal struggles, and system-wide challenges. Created by R. Scott Gemmill and produced with John Wells and Noah Wyle, it’s acclaimed for realism, powerful performances, and its fresh procedural format. The Emmy-winning drama has been praised by critics, audiences, and the medical community alike, making it a must-watch for fans of grounded, emotionally resonant storytelling.
