Seattle based designer Priyanka Chopra of “Priyanka Signature Couture,” recently released her “New Era Collection,” which features bold, vibrant, and eye-catching colors. Pieces of the collection were seen on the runway this past summer at Seattle’s Fil-Am Fashion Week and at the Bellevue Arts and Museum Fashion Show. On September 14th, Priyanaka Signature Couture also opened the Seattle show for hugely popular Indian singer and rapper Badshah who currently has over 16 million followers on Instagram. The opening fashion show featured elaborate and stunning designs from her latest collection while featuring a diverse and striking cast of models.
A rising designer in the Pacific Northwest, Chopra’s journey into the industry initially began in her hometown of Chandigarth, a city in northwestern India. During her time back home, Chopra began creating designs that blend rich Indian craftsmanship with contemporary styles as she further explains, “Arts and culture have always inspired me,” she said. Adding, “And that’s what shaped my vision as colors have always fascinated me. I had always had a knack for styling, creating, and visualizing looks as it came natural to me. So, in 2013, I realized that fashion wasn’t just something I loved, but something I wanted to live and breathe.” Influenced by her creative background and experience in the arts, Chopra has since designed a variety of Indian inspired pieces for women,“ So, my designs represent today’s modern woman: bold, confident, and full of individuality. Each piece is a balance of tradition and contemporary flair designed for women who love to make a statement with elegance. I create fusion.” added Chopra.
Fashion lovers take note as Chopra utilizes sustainable fabrics such as silk and crepe, ensuring that each piece not only looks exquisite but also supports ethical fashion practices. Her designs are known for their stunning handcrafted details such as jewel embellishments and sequins that add a touch of luxuriance, beauty, and femininity, while merging traditional Indian artistry with the modern day woman. The result are timeless pieces that transcend culture, heritage, and tradition. As for Chopra’s latest collection, she intentionally wanted to create a fusion between classic and modern flair, “The New Era Collection is where tradition meets sass,” she said. Adding, “I have used sustainable fabrics, pastel hues, a touch of bling, satin, and jewels to create looks that blend comfort with luxury. Each outfit is paired with statement jewelry which gives it that signature Priyanka fusion touch. I also use a lot of silk fabrics, crepe fabrics and create a lot of dhoti skirts, quadsets, saris, and gowns.”
Coming up, Chopra will be showcasing her designs in Everett, WA, where popular Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya is set to perform. Attendees can expect a stunning and glamorous opening from Priyanka Signature Couture and a cultural experience that blends the elegance of Indian couture and energy of Bollywood. Speaking of her love for design, Chopra feels grateful for living out her passion, “Designing doesn’t feel like work to me. It’s my passion. I just love to work, and bring my imagination to life through fabric, color, and design,” she said.
