Selections are open for the 71st edition of the Taormina Film Festival, which will take place from June 10 to 14, 2025, under the direction of Tiziana Rocca. The Festival will be divided into three sections: the International Feature Film Competition, the Out of Competition section, and Special Events at the Ancient Theatre.
On this occasion, the official poster for this edition has been unveiled, paying tribute to Giuseppe Tornatore’s film Malèna, distributed by Medusa Film, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of its theatrical release.
Tiziana Rocca, Artistic Director of the Festival, stated: “On the 25th anniversary of the release of Malèna, we are happy and proud to dedicate this year’s Taormina Film Festival poster to one of the most iconic films in contemporary Italian cinema. Malèna, directed by Oscar winner Giuseppe Giuseppe Tornatore, has left an indelible mark on the collective imagination, portraying with extraordinary delicacy and poetry the story of a woman, her allure, and her solitude, in a landscape that is as much internal as it is social. The poster we are presenting today is a tribute to this masterpiece: a visual reflection that also serves as an homage to Tornatore’s work, to the timeless beauty of Monica Bellucci, and to the power of a story that has transcended and continues to transcend generations. A timeless tale that deserves to be celebrated. In this regard, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Giuseppe Tornatore and Medusa Film for this kind concession and wonderful opportunity for the festival.”
Feature films completed after October 1, 2024, and presented exclusively as an Italian premiere are eligible for selection in the Competition. The festival’s management will appoint an international jury responsible for awarding the following prizes: Best Film, Best Actress, and Best Actor.
For the Out of Competition section, feature films, documentaries, and/or short films completed after October 1, 2024, and presented exclusively as an Italian premiere are eligible to participate.
