In Celebration of Young Sheldon’s Third Season Premiere on September 26, The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Has Made a $200,000 Pledge to Double All Gifts Made on 9/24, 9/25 and 9/26 to Fund Middle School Applied Science Projects onDonorsChoose.org

BURBANK, Calif. (September 24, 2019) — In honor of our public school teachers and in celebration of Young Sheldon’s third  season premiere Thursday, September 26, at 8:00 pm ET/PT on CBS, The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation (TCLFF) continues its public school STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education commitment and today announced it has partnered with DonorsChoose.org by committing to a $200,000.00 matching gift in support of middle school STEM  projects. On September 24, 25 and 26, TCLFF will be doubling all donations made on the DonorsChoose.org site for any middle school applied science projects tagged with the Young Sheldon logo. To date, teachers at 83 percent of the nation’s public schools have created a classroom project request on DonorsChoose.org.

“We’re so grateful for the support of The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation and Young Sheldon,” said Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org. “This funding will help middle school STEM teachers give important learning opportunities to their students, spurring America’s future scientists, engineers, and mathematicians to success.”

Chuck Lorre said, “On behalf of all of us at Young Sheldon, we are honored to continue our support of public school STEM education and teachers by partnering with DonorsChoose.org. Our public school teachers are truly unsung heroes, and it’s shocking that, on average, they spend about $479.00 of their own money for classroom projects. We hope this matching gift will, in some small way, help teachers and students bring their classroom dreams to life.”

The Young Sheldon Back to School Match promotion with DonorsChoose.org in support of public school teachers and middle school applied science projects follows The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation’s collaborative establishment of THE YOUNG SHELDON STEM INITIATIVE in 2018, The Big Bang Theory Graduate Fellowship Fund in 2019, and The Big Bang Theory Scholarship Endowment at UCLA in 2015.

THE YOUNG SHELDON STEM INITIATIVE provides two-year grants to 20 public schools in Southern California and East Texas, totaling more than $600,000.00 in funding designed specifically to support each school’s STEM teachers and their in-class curriculum, after-school programs and experiential field trips. THE YOUNG SHELDON STEM INITIATIVE currently reaches more than 22,000 students; 25% of those students qualify for free and reduced lunches. The Big Bang Theory Scholarship Endowment at UCLA was launched to assist undergraduate students in need of financial aid who are pursuing their higher education in STEM fields. The more than $5 million endowment includes unprecedented partner donations from TBBT cast, producers, crew, CBS, and Warner Bros. Television, among others. The Big Bang Theory Graduate Fellowship Fund provides $20,000.00 per year in funding for TBBT/UCLA scholars who have been accepted into a STEM-focused graduate or PhD program. Of the inaugural class of 20 TBBT/UCLA scholars who graduated from UCLA in June 2019, three will be attending graduate school.

As Laurie Metcalf said in her call-to-action, ‘Everyone should post #DefendDaca! If you’re young, that’s ‘hashtag Defend Daca’, and if you’re over 40, that’s ‘number sign Defend Daca’!’”

A concert of songs, comedy, and commentary, CONCERT FOR AMERICA has been hailed by the New York Times as “striking for its emphasis on the importance of faith in the United States and optimism about its future.”  Created and hosted by SiriusXM’s Seth Rudetsky and his husband, producer James Wesley, who also organized the Broadway For Orlando/What the World Needs Now is Love recording in 2016.

CONCERT FOR AMERICA debuted on January 20, 2017, and toured the country, benefitting five national organizations fighting for civil, human, and environmental rights. Rick Springfield Reveals Who ‘Jessie’ is from His Hit ‘Jessie’s Girl’ on AXS TV’s MIXTAPE Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8:30pE

Watch and Share the First-Look Clip Here

Chart-topping rocker Rick Springfield joins this week’s episode of AXS TV’s star-studded classic rock series MIXTAPE this Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8:30pE/5:30pP, sharing his personal mixtape and a few stories along the way, including the inspiration behind “Jessie’s Girl” and how the Rolling Stones inspired him to collect obscure rock albums.

In this first-look clip Springfield shares the real story behind writing his hit “Jessie’s Girl,” revealing his connection to the real-life “Jessie.”

“I started going to this stained glass place in Pasadena. And the reason I kept going was because there was this girl there that was burning hot and she had a boyfriend, his name was Gary, and she didn’t want anything to do with me. So I took my sexual angst home and wrote a song about her. I tried “Gary’s Girl,” but it didn’t ring. I actually had this original lyric sheet and I changed it to “Randy’s Girl.” I’d actually started writing “Randy is a friend,” and halfway through that line I thought you know what… no. So this name Jessie popped up in my head. I loved it, I went full tilt on the writing and recording thing.”

Mixtape airs Thursdays at 8:30pE/5:30pP on AXS TV. The eight-episode season puts the spotlight on a different rock icon each week as they sit down to discuss their favorite songs of all time—sharing their own personal mixtape playlist of meaningful music that shaped their lives and left an enduring impact on their legendary careers.

Next week, folk hero Don McLean joins Mixtape on Thursday, Oct. 3, discussing the genius of Buddy Holly and delivering a soulful performance of his signature hit “American Pie.”
